What do you mean only two 62 linear inch bags allowed!

7 more sleeps.

My bags aren't packed and I'm not ready to go (well not my bags anyway). It is very difficult to focus on the mundane tasks of home and work when your mind is dwelling on the preparations and getting ready. I printed off the size and number of bags permitted on international travel for our airline. How is a girl supposed to be prepared for every possible eventuality over the next three weeks if she is only allowed two bags of 62 linear inches, even if her husband says he doesn't need two of his own and she could use one of his luggage allowances? That is expecting just a little much is it not! or should I said "expecting not enough"!

Let's see I need hipwaders for the flooded areas, snorkelling equipment for the flooded areas and for entertainment, a regular camera and underwater camera, a spare camera (if you have read my previous travel blogs you will fully understand this requirement), casual clothes, beach clothes, dressy clothes in case Jack gets a sudden urge to take me to a famous opera house, and then shoes, beach shoes, hiking shoes, sightseeing shoes, dressy shoes, .......and I am sure I have not listed them all. I need glasses, sunglasses, a hat, protection from the scorching sun, protection from the possibility of rain ( I hear you can't trust the weather in Australia. Previously unrecorded amounts of water could fall from the sky and cause flooding you know.) and protection from bugs, snakes, crocs, wildlife and all sorts of potential dangers. I am not sure how large a can of crocodile pesticide I will need. Funny thing, I thought crocs were something to wear in the garden to protect my feet.

As much as I would love to stay and converse, it is now wa-a-a-a-ay past my bedtime so I will say goodnight and hope to get some more preparations completed tomorrow after work.

Goodnight and sweet dreams.

before we begin our journey

Anticipation is building. 8 more sleeps.

Preparations are in motion, information is being gathered about sightseeing tours, lay of the land, travel details. Before we can leave we have shopping to do of things we need to take with us, and business to get done so our world does not fall apart in our absence (it makes us feel important to think it would anyway).

What do we want to see? Where do we want to go? Where is all the flooding and what will be left to see? The atlas comes out almost daily as we check and recheck our potential destinations and the effects of the flooding we see glimpses of on the telly. How far is it to Cairns? Where is Victoria? Can we drive to Brisbane? Will we get to go snorkeling on Great Barrier Reef? Where is Kangaroo Island? What is there to see in Sydney? So many things to see and such little time to do it all in.....and the beach. How hot will it be there?

And of course the motivation for going to this land of many wonders, is the opportunity to see the kids. The excitement of having them show us their worlds and spend time with them makes the anticipation so very sweet. They are just about the only thing that could get me to get into that metal tube to spend 14 hours, 35,000 feet in the air over an expanse of intimidating waters below. That scenario just does not sound like something I would be willing to do. However, with the motivation at hand I will allay my fears to allow myself to be there.

Well this is enough to get our communication started so enjoy the journey....we certainly will.
