a long journey for dance lessons

7Feb2011

It is 5 pm. We have made it through airport security after a day with Ed and Shelley, who were gracious enough to escort us to the airport. Security and customs took less than 1/2 hour as there were no line ups to check luggage and get boarding passes. Lesson number one: if you are going to travel, travel late Monday afternoon as you will decrease your stress by not having to wait in lineups.

As we perused the Hudsons News stand for reading material we noticed they sell knitting magazines, but do not allow knitting needles on board the plane, whereas they do not sell crocheting magazines, but they do allow crochet hooks on the plane. If there is logic in that I will need someone to explain it to me because I am not understanding how that can possibly make any sense.

So we are waiting at out gate and we now have over an hour to gaze into each others' eyes romantically and pretend this is yet another honeymoon. This gives us a chance to bond before being packed into a tin tube like so many sardines t h tt (that by the way was Hannah's input as she came and said goodnight) , oops I meant into the plane.

People-watching in an airport is quite interesting. Some people are anxiously darting from gate to counter to trinket shop, to arrival/departure screen, just to disappear hurriedly down the concourse. Others lounge on comfortable leather arm chairs looking like they have been deposited there as a permanent fixture or a piece of performance art. Airport personnel move around, comfortably exchanging niceties with each other, all the while looking like they cannot wait for their workday to end so they can return to their real world lives beyond the confines of the airport structure. Jack and I choose a set of leather lounge chairs and begin to entertain ourselves with books and magazines as we will do for the next 18.5 hours.

Several hours later...... we have made it to San Francisco, 11,920 kilometres from our destination.

A restless night of trying to sleep, Jack exchanging quips with the air line attendants until they provided him with a free drink, and they became real buddies for the rest of the trip.

14.33 hours later , it is the 9th of February and we land in Sydney.

We are so important we merited two cars to escort us back to Jess and Judd's house. We each had our own personal driver.

Okay I am back. I took a momentary break to tuck Lauren into bed and read Christian a bed time story "the paper bag princess".

After a brief visit, Judd had to take Lauren to the hospital for an eye examination. We took the opportunity to unpack our luggage, freshen up in the shower and headed out with Jess, Christian and Hannah for a walk into Picton to make a few purchases and see some of their daily lives.
Just behind Jess and Judd's castle is a viaduct, which serves as a train track now. It is an historic site. I will attempt to attach a couple of photos for you to enjoy.

While Jess whipped up supper, Christian performed his version of "So you think you can dance". His moves would be the envy of every contestant who has ever competed as top dancer. He did attempt to instruct Poppa Jack in some pretty delightful moves, but Poppa claimed they were way to masterful for him and he needed less complicated moves.

I do think an early night will be the order of the evening, after a gourmet casserole and a glass of wine.

Good night for now.....
